A study was done that showed that individuals affiliated with the dogs that day and in the days after have had lower incidences of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). These dogs were also a source of relief and comfort to everyone involved. But in case you forgot the classics, maybe I need to jog your memory a little. There were so many good bangers from around this time that I can't even keep track of them all. However, what made the parties the most memorable was all the dancing. For me, prime #barmitzvahszn was around 2012-2013. Now let me tell you, the bar mitzvahs were the sh!t, and were always so much fun, especially when it was one of your friends or even your own. Parties typically consisted of a DJ party, speeches from family and friends, giveaways, a montage, and lots of mosh pits. Traditionally, there is a service where the young adult recites a portion from the Torah (the religious scripture) followed by a blowout at some sort of country club, bar, or various event venue. Growing up in an area with a predominantly Jewish community, many of my weekends in seventh grade were spent hopping from temple to temple and event venue to event venue to celebrate ~adulthood.~įor those of you who may not know, a Bar (men) or Bat (women) Mitzvah is a ceremony within the Jewish faith that celebrates the transition from a teenager to an emerging adult. However, my recollection is mostly dictated by memories of #barmitzvahszn. The Bar / Bat Mitzvah ceremony represents the essence of Jewish people, and it has deep roots in the past, values that enrich today's society, and a commitment with the future. Parents and grandparents are part of this emotive ceremony, handing over the ancestral Torah to their descendants, symbolizing the transmission generation to generation of the values, customs, traditions, teachings and spiritual values of Judaism. This preparation can be done in person and remotely, through live streaming platforms such as Skype.ĭuring the ceremony, one of the most emotive moments occurs during the final blessing, when the parents embrace their son / daughter with the talit, and receive the Bar / Bat Mitzvah certificate.
Young people practice for several months in order to play a key role during the ceremony, such as singing several prayers or reading the Parsha Hashavua, the weekly portion of Torah. In this way, they become a precious union, part of that unbreakable chain called Judaism, that century after century, unites generation after generation. They cease to be Jewish only because their parents are Jewish, and they become Jewish by their own conviction. When the boy is 13 and the girl 12 years old, it is time they leave childhood according to the Jewish tradition, and they become adults with all the rights and obligations that it implies. Therefore, technically speaking, children do not make the Bar / Bat Mitzvahbut they become Bar / Bat Mitzvah. The literal meaning of Bar / Bat Mitzvah is son / daughter of the precept. The Bar / Bat Mitzvah ceremony is a traditional ritual within the Jewish community that involves happiness for the young protagonists and of course, for the family and members of the community that participate in the event.
